Have you ever started your business and/or speaking career and felt led in a different direction from where you started? I’ve been there friend and the first thing I want to say is that it’s okay to feel like you are in a different place than where you began. It’s okay to evolve and reinvent yourself. That is the beauty of doing your own thing and not being tied down to a 9-5 day job description. It’s okay to color outside the lines and not have all the answers. We won’t ever have all the answers or know exactly where our path will lead us. That is why we trust and serve an almighty God because we can find peace and stability knowing that He does. A lot of times we allow the enemy to fill our heads with lies like: “people are going to think you don’t know what you are dong.” “you are hurting your credibility by switching gears.” “why would anyone take you seriously, you look like an amateur who doesn’t know what she is doing.” So just know anytime you are doing God’s work, the enemy will be right there up close and personal in your face to tear you down but declare here and now you will not allow the lies of the enemy to dig up in doubt what you have planted in faith. So, yes, you can change your audience and direction once you’ve started your speaking career (these tips also apply to any kind of business not just speaking). I had the honor of sharing my journey, what I have learned, how and why I changed my speaking niche, how I gained traction early on in my speaking career and what it was like to make the jump from a full-time corporate career to a full-time speaker over on The Speaker Lab Podcast hosted by Grant Baldwin. Grant has himself grown his speaking business and training business to 7 figures so he knows what it takes to make a living at it. Here is a little sneak peak of what we chatted about:

  • When I knew I wanted to work full-time as a speaker;

  • Why I resisted nailing down my niche when I started speaking;

  • How I stayed positive through multiple transitions;

  • What I did early on to get speaking gigs;

  • How I set me fees for speaking when I first got started;

  • How creating time blocks helped me to prioritize;

  • How I decided when to add coaching, consulting and courses;

  • Advice for how to transition out of a full-time job;

  • And so much more!
